Público P3 Entrevista Beesweet

Público – P3 interviewed us

The digital supplement of the journal “Público”, made us an interview in August of 2014. Among other questions, they wanted to know what is lacking in the Portuguese Creative Industries.

We said it lacks of pragmatism. “Knowing what we believe is the right way to succeed in the idea of business and leverage the work with constant learning. To understand that sometimes it is better to discard aspects that, according to market tests, may not result in a positive outcome.”

Your project is one of the ten finalists of the 2014th edition of the National Creative Industries Prize (NCIP). How would you describe the project to a person who has never heard of your brand?

Beesweet presents a newly flavoured and raw honey, using natural techniques and bringing an innovative product with various applications. We represent the third generation of beekeepers in the family and we believe in the opportunity of developing this project by launching an innovative product on the market. This is a specific blueberry flowering honey, not yet released in Portugal and with health-specific properties — in development with educational and research institutions. The Beesweet products propose flavoured experiences, which can go from the most intense, such as the honey Nº25 Christmas, to the freshest, as the Honey Nº1 Citrus. The packaging has a unique design, ergonomic, clean and practical to use.

What does your company differ from other similar projects?

There is no specific honey of blueberry blossoming in the EU, only in a few places in the world — these are very rare and relatively recent, with a growing demand and already has an affirmation in the naturist market as a product of nutritional and organic relevance. It does not exist in the global honey-flavored market. Considering the inertia around the honey market, the inclusion of this innovative product, as well as the use of differentiated packaging, opens a new flexible market, either in terms of geographic deployment or in a variety of honey-based products. It has not yet been allied with the product a refined, passionate, practical use and unique design.

The prize for the winner of this edition is 25000€. If you win, where are you investing the money?

Beesweet will need at least 30000€ to start the activity, purchase equipment, raw materials and packages.

What does the Portuguese creative industries need?

It lacks pragmatism. Knowing what we believe is the right way to succeed in the idea of business and leverage the work with constant learning. To understand that sometimes it is better to discard aspects that, according to market tests, may not result in a positive outcome. Effectively move from ideas to practice, with the goal of achieving positive results as soon as possible. The persistence and focus of progressing, to take the risk, to leave your comfort area and to implement the real needs of the customers.

If your company went to a job interview and asked you where you’re going to be in 2020, what would you answer?

We are the founders of a world-leading company in the commercialization of “premium” honey-based products.
